Spray-in-Place-Pipe Rehabilitation

Canadian Induracoat Corporation (Induracoat) will be holding two Spray-In-Place-Pipe Rehabilitation demonstrations at the Trenchless Technology Roadshow in Kelowna, BC on April 25th

Induracoat is the Canadian Authorized Applicator for the latest generation fast-set pipe lining polymer, Resiline 320 Pipe Renewal Liner.

The details of the presentations are below:

Spray-In-Place-Pipe Lining Demonstration - Monday April 25th at 1:30pm

Location: Parking Lot

Canadian Induracoat Corporation (Induracoat) will be conducting a demonstration of a trenchless watermain rehabilitation technology referred to as Spray-In-Place-Pipe (SIPP).

Resiline 320 Pipe Renewal Liner has been specifically developed for the rehabilitation of potable water pipe infrastructure to help greatly extend service life, inhibit internal corrosion, reduce leaks, and improve water quality.

Resiline 320 is applied using computer controlled robotic spin-cast application technology first developed in Europe 40 years ago. Resiline 320 is both bisphenol- A and VOC free.

When applied to ductile iron, cast iron, or asbestos cement pipe, Resiline 320 can provide either a water quality corrosion barrier lining or a high build structural lining.

Same day return to service with no need for bypass piping is possible given the reduction (+/- 90%) to required excavation and the rapid-setting (1 hour) feature of Resiline 320. Disruption to the local community is reduced along with the carbon output and cost savings to the municipality often exceed 50% over full cut replacement.

Latest Developments in Spray-In-Place-Pipe (SIPP) Watermain Rehabilitation – Monday April 25th at 3:30pm

Location: Kootenay Room

Hosted by Andrew Donald, Global Business Development Manager of RESIMAC Ltd.

Andrew Donald has over 30 years’ experience with coatings for pipelines.  Andrew started his career at E Wood Ltd in the UK who developed the first generation of rapid setting, Spray in Place Pipe (SIPP) lining materials for drinking water pipes in the late 1990s to address water quality issues in the UK water distribution network.  Following the acquisition of E Wood Ltd in 2007 by 3M Company Andrew oversaw the growth of the 2nd generation semi-structural rapid setting SIPP lining materials in Europe as well as managing 3Ms Oil and Gas pipeline coating portfolio.

In 2021 Andrew joined Resimac Ltd as Global Business Development Manager, Resimac developed and launched the 3rd generation rapid setting SIPP lining material Resiline 320 in 2019 gaining NSF 61 approval in 2020 and DWI Reg 31(4)(a) in the UK earlier this year.

Fracture Repair & Containment Coating

The repair of random cracks and application of a coating in a secondary containment area was a major concern at this airplane manufacturing plant. Due to the limited shutdown time and low October temperatures most conventional coating systems were ruled out.

VersaFlex rapid curing polyurea sealants and coatings were specified and successfully installed. The random cracks were ground out and filled with VersaFlex SLl 75, which took less than I hour to cure.

Aqualok concrete sealer and primer was then installed to inssure proper bonding.

versa micro VersaFlex FSS 45 DC-F polyurea spray, with a 5 second gel time, was applied at a film thickness of 65mils.

The entire project was completed from start to finish in just 4 days, which was half the time it would have taken using a conventional coating system.

Project: Major fracture repair and secondary concrete containment coating

Owner: A major airplane manufacturing company, Wichita, Kansas

Contractor: Doyle, Reed Painting Company

Coating System: VersaFlex SU75 for crack repair and FSS 45DC-F Polyurea

Project Scope: 6,500 S.F.

Installation: October 1995

Clarifier Tank Tops

Project: Clarifier Tank Tops

Owner: S.F. Phosphates Industrial Plant

Contractor: Systems Development Service

Coating System: FSS-50DM Spray Membrane

Project Scope: 41,000 S.F.

Installation: Mid 1995

Corrosion and severe abrasion were two serious problems at this industrial phosphate facility. Maintenance engineers had tried several coating systems over the preceding years in an effort to protect both steel and concrete surfaces.

While various epoxy systems offered some protection they were short lived and took far too long to cure at time of installation.

After in depth research, it was determined that a rapid cure polyurea system might be the solution.

VersaFlex was consulted and a polyurea metal coating system was specified for all surfaces. The approved VersaFlex contractor installed versa micro VersaFlex FSS 50DM spray coating to the top of the clarifier tanks to protect steel from dripping 28% phosphoric acid.

In addition, numerous steel support beams were coated for protection against 5% fluosilic acid vapor, which is highly corrosive.

Both shaft and flights on the gypsum filter table needed protection from 10% phosphoric acid as well as the abrasive gypsum in order to extend the auger life from 1 to 3 years.

Vancouver St. Victoria BC

Water Quality / Structural Improvement

Vancouver St. | Fort St. to McClure St.

Client: City of Victoria - Victoria, BC Canada

Date: November 2014

Summary

In the fall of 2014, Induracoat was awarded a bid to line over 300 meters of Victoria's aging water mains. The project required minimal impact on traffic flows in the area, and priority concern was given to the wide range of mature, and fully established trees within the neighbourhood.

The area was also a heavy mixture of residential dwellings, historical structures, and commercial businesses. Every effort was made to ensure that Induracoat's personnel & equipment were of minimal disruption to the area residents & businesses.

“The dozens of beautiful trees lining both sides of Vancouver Street in Victoria were planted long after the water main installation in 1908. Water main replacement would have likely been lethal to the trees given the water mains current proximity.

The use of our pipe renewal liner provided the city with a trenchless, semi-structural rehabilitation solution without harm to the trees and significantly reduced impact on local traffic flows.”

Water Quality / Structural Improvement

Sumas St. | Garbally St. to Manchester St.

Client: City of Victoria - Victoria, BC Canada

Date: November 2014

Summary

In 2014 Induracoat continued to provide The City of Victoria with further lining solutions. In this instance, Induracoat lined over 180 meters of 150mm pipe throughout the Sumas Street neighbourhood, including Garbally through Manchester Street.

The weather at this time of year was not a barrier to Induracoat's technology or application process.

"The water main at this location runs directly under the curb where the grass and treed boulevard meets the road. Replacement would have meant weeks of traffic disruption to the commercial and residential neighbours and very likely the loss of several trees.

The area has experienced a higher rate of breaks and the City was seeking a non-disruptive solution to enhance the mains structural integrity. Our trenchless rehabilitation was able to deliver an economical solution."

Water Quality / Structural Improvement

Pandora Ave. | Douglas St. to Government St.

Client: City of Victoria - Victoria, BC Canada

Date: July 2016

Summary

In 2016, Induracoat again provided lining services for The City of Victoria on Padora Avenue. this line services Victoria City Hall, a local TV station (CTV Vancouver Island) and a centrally located hotel (the Rialto).

The installation of pipe renewal liner acted as a semi-structural liner to ensure that these pipes were sound before investing money in further street surface upgrades.

The City of Victoria was preparing to upgrade the surface streetscape along Pandora St. and was eager to rehabilitate the 1908 water main prior to starting street refurbishment. This extremely busy downtown street is adjacent to Victoria City Hall and centered in Victoria's tourist area.

Full cut replacement would have closed traffic for at least a month, causing significant traffic chaos. Induracoat was able to rehabilitate the water main in three days, while leaving one lane open to traffic."
